The Personal Trainer course is provided to accredit school leaver’s who have attained a matric qualification, or prospective students with NQF level 4 qualifications, with a recognised health and fitness course at an NQF level 5. The program will use South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) Unit Standards (US) as its means of ensuring alignment with South African requirements. The qualification will use CATTSETHA as the quality assurance body.
The program will endeavour to equip students with both theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to successfully operate as a personal trainer.
A qualifying learner who has achieved this qualification will be able to:
- Design and implement a physical activity programme for apparently healthy individuals, plus screen, assess and monitor health related fitness programmes, without direct supervision.
- Promote and provide safe and effective physical activity participation to meet participant/s fitness requirements. In addition, this qualifying learner will have the knowledge for appropriate referral to other health care providers.
This course is ideally suited to individuals who would like to study via distance learning over a shorter period of time. This is a more compact course in comparison to the National Certificate in Fitness and does offer the same level of recognition in the fitness industry.
Students who select this option cannot progress onto a Diploma in Fitness, but can study further with other course offerings available (see our study further options)
