This course endeavors to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills required to instruct participants and groups in Pilates training.
By the conclusion of this course, you should be able to apply yourself in the following key areas:
1. Apply Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to Exercise Training:
- Identify the anatomical structures of the human body
- Explain the movements of the joints, bones and muscles
- Describe common exercises and their related movement.
- Identify the physiological systems of the human body
2. Instruct Exercise to Individuals and Groups :
- Prepare and Plan an Exercise Session
- Instruct exercise in consideration of safe and effective exercise requirements.
- Utilize appropriate communication skills required to instruct exercise.
- Instruct exercise classes in a professional and confident manner.
3. Test & Evaluate Health-Related Fitness Components
- Information is accurately recorded and stored systematically
- Confidentiality and integrity of information is maintained
- Explains purpose, function and protocols of fitness test
- Data is accurately interpreted according to accepted protocol for the particular testing tool
- Understands the testing protocol
- Explains the issues and implications that make up the testing tool (e.g. validity, repeatability, accuracy)
- Accurately communicates results to the fitness participant
- Displays non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and supportive behaviour.
- Creates conducive environment for the testing process.
- Participant is consulted with in reaching conclusions, which relate to physical activity readiness.
- Areas of performance which are evaluated are open to improvement
- Keeps track of own learning and performance and evaluates it against own expectations
4. Recommend an Exercise Programme or Activity
- Conduct a physical activity readiness assessment
- Interpret results of a physical activity readiness score.
- Select an appropriate pre-designed programme or activity for a participant/s.
- Implement motivation methods and strategies to promote exercise adherence.
- Monitor the process of program implementation
5. Promote an Awareness of Nutritional Principles
- Read and interprets food labels on a variety of food products
- Define various nutrition terms, e.g. micro and macronutrients, metabolism, energy, food guide pyramid etc.
- Develop and explain an eating plan which may include health enhancing supplements
- Explain own scope of practice and clarify in relation to appropriate practitioner referral
- Provide practical guidelines on how to keep a personal nutrition diary and be able to interpret and advise on the information gathered.
