Introduction to Human Physiology

The body is made up of a collection of systems, which all work together to bring about daily living. None of these systems can function alone, and any bodily function is a result of a combination of these systems working together. However, for learning purposes, it is easier to look at them individually.

When all of these systems are in unison, they bring about what is known as homeostasis. This is a state of balance within the body, which the body’s systems are always working towards. Any disturbance to this state will result in a chain reaction, throughout the systems, working towards returning the balance. Potential disturbances include sickness, physical injury, and even things as small as the increase in core temperature caused by exercise.

Some of the more important body systems, as they relate to exercise, will be covered in order to try and improve understanding of the human body
